As far as hybrids are concerned, Acura cars in Los Angeles have been glaringly devoid of the sort of technology being implemented by a strong number of other automakers in the world, but not anymore. This spring, we look forward to welcoming a new edition to our family of automobiles: the 2013 Acura ILX hybrid compact sedan.
In general, we consider the ILX to be a transition model for customers moving up from the Honda Civic to more luxurious environs. While there are three different powertrains available for this gorgeous little four-door, the hybrid trim is what’s garnering the most attention because, frankly, it will be the first hybrid option we here at Center Acura will have ever had the opportunity to sell.
The main engine for this beautiful little hybrid is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder supplemented by a 20-hp electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery pack. Total horsepower for the ILX hybrid is right around 111, while the torque sits at 127 lb-ft per 1,000-3,000 rpm. Consider the electric motor a backup plan for when extra juice is needed in the vehicle, and a lot of the emissions saved come as a result of start/stop technology that turns off the engine while the car sits at stop signs or during braking.
And, of course, you can expect all the usual luxuries associated with an Acura in this new ILX hybrid. Just because it skimps on fuel doesn’t mean it’s going to skimp on anything else. We’ve worked hard to combine fuel economy and luxury as flawlessly as possible, and we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the results of those efforts.
